Biography
Zachary (“Zak”) Klein is a proud New Jersey native. While completing his undergraduate studies in our nation's capital, Zak gained first-hand experience with lawmaking and legislative advocacy through extended internships at the United States Senate and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Then, after discovering his passion for the environment during law school, Zak dove deep into ocean and coastal law through a two-year fellowship at the National Sea Grant Law Center in Oxford, Mississippi, where he published extensively and frequently collaborated with policymakers from across the country. Since returning home to the Garden State, Zak has continued honing his understanding of the environmental issues that dominate the headlines through work in both the nonprofit and private sectors. Zak’s legal practice now runs the full gamut of environmental, land use, and energy/utilities law, and he prides himself on his client-centered approach.
Experience:
- Successfully defended a coastal homeowner’s NJDEP permit in oral argument before the Appellate Division of the New Jersey Superior Court
- Secured finding of No Coastal Jurisdiction from NJDEP for commercial client in Ocean County, saving client considerable time and expense during relocation
- Multiple appearances before the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities in rate case proceedings (on behalf of both public utility petitioners and municipal intervenors)
- Testified before the New Jersey Senate Energy & Environment Committee and the Assembly Environment, Natural Resources & Solid Waste Committee on multiple occasions
- Co-organized and -hosted multiple consensus-building workshops concerning ocean and coastal law issues for Federal, State, and private sector partners
